Zygomatic Implants

Dental Implant & Smile Centre

Dental implants are a solution to single and multiple missing teeth, a dental implant is a screw made of biocompatible material which is placed into the jawbone to replace the missing roots of the normal teeth. A crown, dental bridge or denture is then fitted to the implant so that it can feel and function like a natural tooth. For an implant to be successful there needs to be sufficient bone in the jaws to anchor and create a bond to the bone which is called Osseointegration which ensures the longevity, stability and fit of the dental implant. Sometimes patients looking for dental implant treatment have been told that they do not have sufficient bone height or density for the treatment, Zygomatic implants offer a solution in the upper jaw often in conjunction with normal implants to support a new denture platform or fixed bridge solution. Zygomatic implants are longer than the normal implant, they reach upto and are anchored to the Zygomatic bone in the cheekbone, (hence the name) rather than to the maxilla eliminating the need for bone grafting or sinüs lifting. An implant procedure which need bone grafts take at least 3 months to heal whereas with Zygomatic implants you could leave the clinic with teeth in place. Zygomatic implants are designed to support restorative procedures that allow for immediate loading of teeth.
Benefits of Zygomatic implants include the following;
 Zygomatic implants are strong & suitable for patients with not enough or not strong enough maxillary bone
 Using two Zygomatic implants can help replace multiple teeth at a go
 It reduces the need for bone grafting treatment as they anchor into the cheek bones
 helps reduce the amount of time required for traditional dental implants to be placed.
Replacing dentures with implant-supported bridges can dramatically improve your facial appearance as well as restoring the natural function of your jaw. Prior to zygomatic implant surgery, a CBCT scan is taken at our clinic to assess the amount of bone available in the upper jaw and allows us to ascertain if you are suitable for treatment using Zygomatic implants and plan their placement.
